Wedding dress & attire budget calculator
The dress (or suit) is only part of the cost. Set your attire budget from your total, and we'll split it into the outfit, alterations, accessories and shoes so you know what to look for in the shop.

How it works
- We hold back money for alterations and accessories first, so the number you shop with is what's actually left for the outfit.
- Alterations depend on the outfit and how much needs changing. Ask the shop or a tailor for an estimate before you buy.
- Planning two outfits, or dressing both partners? Raise the share or add a second attire line.
Questions
How much should we budget for a wedding dress?
Our standard starting split puts attire at about 5% of the total wedding budget. Set aside part of that for alterations, accessories and shoes, and shop with what's left for the outfit itself.
Should alterations be part of the dress budget?
Yes. Alterations, a veil or accessories, and shoes often surprise people, so plan for them inside the attire budget.
How do we keep attire costs down?
Shop sample sales and pre-owned, set your budget with the shop before you try anything on, and ask what alterations will cost before you buy.
