How the checklist works

  • Every task is counted back from your date, so a wedding in eight months gets a tighter timeline than one in eighteen.
  • Tasks whose ideal time has already passed move to "Catch up now", so short engagements know exactly where to start.
  • In your free VowPair plan, vendor tasks check themselves off when you book, and you get a weekly reminder when something is due.

Wedding planning questions

When should we start planning our wedding?

A year out is comfortable for most weddings, mostly because popular venues and vendors book early. Planning in less time works too: the checklist puts anything whose ideal time has passed under "Catch up now" so you can see what to do first.

What should we book first?

Set your budget and rough guest count, then book the venue. The venue fixes your date, capacity and often your catering options, and the other vendors follow from it.

Is the checklist printable?

Yes. Use "Print or save as PDF" on the checklist and it prints cleanly, grouped by month.

Can the checklist remind us when things are due?

Save it to a free VowPair account and we'll email a short weekly reminder when tasks are coming up. Tasks tied to a vendor tick themselves off when you book that vendor, and you can add your own tasks or hide ones that don't apply.

When do we need to get a marriage license in Texas?

In Texas a marriage license is valid for 90 days and there's a 72-hour wait after it's issued, so the checklist puts it about six weeks before the wedding. Check your county clerk for current rules, fees and exemptions.
